Columbus Day (ages 5-10)

  1. Read In 1492 your child.
  2. Research information about Christopher Columbus on the Internet:
    Facts about Columbus
  3. Ask your child to draw pictures of the “Nina”, “Pinta”, and “Santa Maria” sailing west across the Atlantic.
  4. Find Spain and the Bahamas on a map or globe. Show Columbus’s journey to your child on the map.
  5. “America” was named after Amerigo Vespucci. (He explored the mainland for Portugal after Columbus).
  6. Read more about Vespucci with your child.
  7. Talk to your child about other brave men like Columbus who faced their fears with much courage.
