Here’s what you’ll need:
- 26 sheets of paper (any color)
- Markers, crayons, or colored pencils
- Plastic binder, stapler, or hole punch and yarn
Here’s what you do:
- Bind the 26 sheets of paper together.
- On the first sheet, ask your child to write the upper and lower case characters for the letter “A”. On this same sheet, ask your child to think of something “wintery” that starts with the letter “A”. For example, if he says, “Angel,” write: “1 golden angel” on the “A” page and ask your child to draw one golden angel.
- On the following sheet, which will be the “B” page, your child will draw two things that starts with “B”.
- “C” will have three things.
- “D” will have four things, and so on.
- Each page should have a color word that matches the picture.
- The pictures will need to be smaller with each progressive letter so that all of the pictures will fit on the page. For example:
A a 1 golden angel (Child draws one picture of a golden angel)
B b 2 yellow bells (Child draws two pictures of a yellow bells)
C c 3 orange Christmas carolers (Child draws three pictures of Christmas carolers)
.
.
Z z 26 silver zippers on winter jackets (Child draws 26 pictures of a silver zipper on a jacket)
- When all the pages are finished, bind the book with hole punches and colorful yarn or string. If you have access to a binding machine, you can bind the book with a plastic binder.
- Use this book as you would any picture book. Let your child reread it as many times as he wishes.
