Make a costume box by simply filling a box with old clothes, shoes, hats, scarves, etc. (If you have no old clothes—lucky you! You may want to look around at garage sales or resale shops to fill your box.)
When your costume box is ready, ask your child to choose a storybook character.
Tell him not to tell anyone who the character is, but instead, to go into the costume box and dress up as a book character.
When your child is dressed up, ask him to walk and talk like the character would.
Try to guess who your child is!
Take turns dressing up as different storybook characters.
Add to your costume box as you find more old clothes and accessories.
