Onomatopoeic “Sticky” Clues (ages 5-10)

Here’s what you’ll need:

Here’s what you do:

  1. With your child, write down several summer onomatopoeic sentences on notebook paper. For example:

    Fish splash in the water.
Bees buzz around the picnic table.
Dogs bark to be let in on a hot summer’s day.

  2. Change each sentence into a clue. For example:

Fish splash in the water. -> I splash in the water.

Write each clue on a separate sticky note.

  3. When you have six clues written on sticky notes, stick them onto a piece of construction paper. (Three on the top and three on the bottom works well.) Leave room under each clue for a picture.
  4. Under each clue, ask your child to draw a picture of the answer. For example:

Under the clue, “I splash  in the water.”, your child would draw a picture of a fish.
