“Love” is Hard to Spell (ages 4-8)

Children are full of love, but the word “love” is a hard word to spell. (Most children want to spell it “luv”.) Here’s how to help your child learn to spell, “love”.

Here’s what you’ll need:

Here’s what you do:

  1. Fold three sheets of paper in half and staple the folded side to form a little book.
  2. On the cover write, “I Love… by (your child’s name)”.
  3. Ask your child what he loves. On each page write, “I love (something your child loves)”.
  4. Ask your child to illustrate and read each page before going onto the next.
  5. As he reads each page for the first time, ask him to point to the words as he reads them. (After the first page or two, your child maybe able to write “love” by himself.)
  6. Repeat this activity with other hard-to-spell words such as because, come, friend, know, once, one, some, want, and you.
