Here’s what you’ll need:
- Construction paper (a variety of colors)
- Scissors
- Hole punch
- Yarn
- Paper
- Pencil
- Crayons, markers, or colored pencils
- Books about bears
Here’s what you do:
- Read several nonfiction books about different kinds of bears with your child. (Most children love bears. They are strong animals with long claws for hunting, digging, fishing, and climbing trees.)
- After reading the books, write down a couple of sentences about the different kinds of bears.
- Next, make a mask for each bear.
- When the masks are done, ask your child to put one on, read the facts about the bear to another family member, and have that person guess which bear’s mask your child is wearing.
Here are a few examples of interesting bears:
- Giant pandas - They have an “extra thumb” to help grab things.
- Grizzly bears - Their cubs live with them for up to 3-1/2 years.
- Polar bears - They carve ice dens that look like igloos.
- Black bears - They hibernate in hollow logs or mountain cave dens.
