An acrostic is a poem in which the first letter of each line spells out a word. Here’s a way for children to write one (see sample worksheet):
- Have the children write the subject of their poem (a single word) vertically, using capital letters.
For example:
S
P
I
D
E
R
S
- For each letter, have the children write a descriptive word or phrase that begins with that letter.
For example:
Spinning a web
Prickly
Icky to touch
Dark
Eggs
Rough
Scary
